To Do In Gainesville and Alachua

Gainesville, Florida is recognized as one of the nation's most livable, ecologically beautiful and technologically advanced cities (named Florida Tree City of the Year in 1997). As the county seat of Alachua County, Gainesville FL serves as the commercial hub for the North Central Florida area that is especially noted for the excellence of its medical and educational institutions. Gainesville is only 60-90 minutes from both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico beaches, and the area enjoys beautiful sunshine and moderate temperatures year-round. Residents may enjoy a busy schedule of outstanding community events and festivals which draw participants from around the state and occasionally the world.

University of Florida

Gainesville is best known as the home of the University of Florida (UF), important in education, medicine, cultural arts, and sports in the area. Alachua County is surrounded by many natural wonders, including rivers, lakes and the crystal springs for which it is famous.
