In my daily routine I see a lot of buildings.  Living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms… I’m looking at the quality of construction, the finish work, and evaluating the floorplan for my customer’s needs.

I know a lot about the houses they buy and move into, but I don’t get to see the magic that happens as the family turns their new house into a home.

And then one day they call me again when it is time to move on.  New baby, new job, new life… for some reason their home isn’t right for them anymore and they want me to help them sell it.

I get to see the ghosts of their life in the house, but making it sell-able means reversing that magical thing they did – turning the home back into a house so the next family can fill it up with their imagination.

It’s the time between buying and selling the house that is important. I love my job and feel honored to help people with the big transitions they face at these times.  I’m honored by the fact that families open up to share their quirks with me, so that I can help them find a proper home.  But, I do understand that what I do is the means to an end – the goal is having a happy life.

Ok, enough nostalgia… sorry for the outpouring of sentiment.  Here is a napkin, I think I got some on your shoes.

The website’s thesis is to find an old photo, then go to where it was taken and take a new photo of it in the same spot.  The awareness it creates of passing time is pretty amazing.  Visit the website to see more photos, or to post your own!

This is the season for the nighttime streets to be lined with glimmering, sparkling, twinkling distractions. They are beautiful and meant to be shared, right?

I have a soft spot in my heart for Christmas lights. I love driving around at night this time of year to see the beautiful displays.

And so Gainesville Lights! was born – a new community page on Facebook.

I wanted to make a place where people can share photos of holiday lights and share the locations so we all can enjoy the best displays.

It’s new, but I hope it catches on.

From Zucchini festivals to Great Music there are many festivals all summer long in North Florida. Many events throughout the year are held in small towns and cities across North Florida.

High Springs Florida: Big Pioneer Days Festival April 24-25

The next big festival is PIONEER DAYS scheduled for April 24-25 right here in High Springs. They expect over 1000 people will attend. It’s a time to step into the past and look at the way our ancestors lived. They simulate a cowboy shoot out, and have many different situations to show how it was back when. There are also the food booths -  with lots of good food.

High Springs Sink Hole

New Location

Instead of it Main Street High Springs, Pioneer Days will be by the City Hall sinkhole & police department.  It is just past Main Street, behind the Women’s Club

How many cities would be bold enough to advertise a party by a sinkhole?

It is a landmark and if you have never seen one, or wonder what it is, stop by the party – look for the crowd.

Why is High Springs Here?

The city of High Springs was first established in the 1840’s and became more settled in 1888 when the phosphate mines and the post office was established here.  As of the 2000 census there were approximately 3800 people that live in the vicinity. We will see how much it has grown in the 10 yrs when we get the new census reports.

High Springs is not such a small town anymore. It  has some great food, shopping, and if you like antiques, this is the place to shop.
